Every big movement starts somewhere special, and we picked Oakland, the hometown of many of our team members, as our first pilot.
In September 2020, we started selling products from 17 local stores on keepoaklandalive.com and delivering them by hand to residents across Oakland. Five months later we have more than 40 stores with more coming on as fast we can add them, and have put nearly $100K in local merchants’ pockets thanks to the Oakland community showing up and shopping local.
From inception, the KOA team has been exceptional! Delivery service is not something that I was able to offer in the past as a small business owner.
Other companies have offered similar service but at a much greater cost to us as a business. Keep Oakland Alive is a real community partner.
It feels like a family that KOA has curated. And to top it off...they can deliver some online sales that are impressive during unprecedented times.
The community of Oakland has astounded us with their support. We’ve partnered with organizations including the Uptown and Downtown BIDs, Visit Oakland, the Alameda County Food Bank, and we’ve watched as residents spread the love, all the way up to the mayor. Our local delivery includes neighboring cities of Alameda and Berkeley, and we ship Keep Oakland Alive orders nationwide.
Eventually, we aspire to bring an online marketplace to a neighborhood or town near you — so that everyone has the choice to shop local with ease.
